Nicaragua Tres Gallos is our first direct trade coffee of the season to arrive. It is an exceptional blend from three small family farms that are located in the Jinotega growing region some 2.5 hours from the capital city of Managua. We are calling it Tres Gallos in recognition of the fact that this area is very much a throw back to a more agrarian existence where locals travel by horses and where it is still common to see oxen pulling carts through the streets.
However, the coffee itself is a modern varietal called Caturra Estrella and represents an improvement in quality from its predecessor.
